Sugar Cane 14.25oz 1953 Type II Denim Jacket – Indigo

Sugar Cane 14.25oz 1953 Type II Denim Jacket – Indigo

The early 1950s marked a turning point for denim jackets. What began as pure workwear slowly entered everyday American style. The Type II jacket, introduced by Levi’s in 1953 as the famous 507XX, became one of the most recognizable silhouettes of the era. Sugar Cane’s SC11953A is a meticulous reproduction of this milestone piece, capturing the spirit of mid-century denim with impressive accuracy.
The jacket is made from 14.25oz Japanese selvedge denim, woven on vintage shuttle looms for the kind of irregular texture only slow weaving can produce. The fabric uses pure indigo dyed warp yarns and a natural white weft, resulting in a deep indigo tone that develops beautiful contrast fades over time. The rinsed finish removes shrinkage while preserving the crisp structure of the denim.
True to the original 1953 design, the jacket features the signature front knife pleats with box stitching, a slightly boxy silhouette, and two chest pockets with button flaps. Additional details include iron logo buttons, copper rivet reinforcement, adjustable waist tabs, and a vegetable-tanned deerskin patch that ages alongside the denim.
A faithful interpretation of a defining denim jacket — built in Japan with the same attention to detail that made the originals legendary.
